Back in 1950’s Finland, Helena Kuuskoski created her own alternative troll folklore. The notion grew into a family obsession, which spawned a cottage industry and eventually a popular Trolldom themepark. Everything changed when the family emmigrated, except an undying devotion to all things troll. Three generations of Kuuskoskis still draw troll characters, sew troll dolls, tell troll storys, and dream troll dreams in a small house in Wilmington, N.C. “Trolls know how to make people smile,” says Helena’s daughter Minna. “We’re stuck on trolls.”

The Looking at Movies media package extends the text’s emphasis on analysis with film clips, frame sequences, short films, and animations.

I was fortunate enough to work with Dave Monahan to shoot the behind the scenes footage, which is incorporated in these segments.
